Now, the most popular web browser is Google Chrome. But Chrome has higher security issues. Chrome is accused of tracking people when using the internet. How can we rescue from tracking us?
Google’s main income is targeted for advertising. If they show us the most applicable ads, their click-through rate and conversion rate is increasing. So, Google can sell their ads to their customers at a higher price.
Also, web sites in the world sharing their data. This called cross-site data sharing. As an example, if you searched for a product on Amazon and after you go to Facebook, you can see an advertisement for the product you searched for! So, Amazon and Facebook are sharing their data. To do this, they use third party cookies.
A cookie is a file that a web site is storing in your computer after you go to a web site using a web browser. When you visit the site again, it can recognize you correctly. So, these web sites which are using cookies, are using your computer’s hard drive.
We can log in to sites using our Google account or Facebook account. When we logged using our Facebook, Facebook can track us. In this way, sites can track us separately.
Opera, Edge, Brave browsers are made by chromium engine which is used to make Chrome. This chromium engine has the technology to track users. To prevent tracking, we have to use a browser that has not chromium engine. We have a few more solutions.
DuckDuckGo is one of the best solutions. This can be installed on an Android phone or an iPhone. You can get a better understanding of how you are tracking by using this browser. This has a feature to delete all your cookies and other data after closing the browser.
If you are a Chrome lover and worry about privacy, you have a nice solution! That is the DuckDuckGo Chrome plugin. You can install the plugin and get a report of how you are tracking while using Chrome. You can block the activities which you do not prefer.
Some web sites give us a privacy policy to read. This privacy policy says how they collect and use our data. But most of us click on ‘I agree’ without reading. If you are lazy to read this, you can use the DuckDuckGo plugin! DuckDuckGo plugin scans the policy and gives a rating.
Also, you can use the Firefox browser as a solution for privacy issues. Firefox block third-party cookies. So that web sites cannot share your data. and also Firefox shows what technologies are used to track you by the web sites and if you don’t prefer, you can block those. Firefox allows us to permit to access your webcam, microphone and location site by site.
These days, cryptocurrency mining becomes famous. This needs high processing power. Some web sites are designed to use your computer to mine cryptocurrency when we go to those sites. Firefox can automatically block this. So, it is better to move to Firefox if you consider your privacy.
If you are an Apple lover, your default browser should be Safari. This has a good safety because users are promised to protect their privacy by Apple.
If you need extreme privacy in cyber, you can use tor browser, I have said about tor in my Dark web blog. When you are using tor, web site can’t identify who you are and where you from. So that sites like Google, Facebook see you are from various countries at various time. Therefore, you may be blocked temporarily or permanently. So that you should concern about this!
